I brought in my late father's dress watch — an old mechanical piece — not knowing if it could be saved. Suresh spent considerable time with it on the timing machine and produced a report that explained everything clearly. I appreciated that he presented options rather than assuming what I'd want to spend.

The engraving on my husband's wedding watch came out better than I imagined. I was nervous about having someone work on the caseback, but Hui Yee walked me through the proof carefully and made a small adjustment I'd asked for without any fuss. The finish matches the original exactly.

I've been collecting for about fifteen years and have dealt with several workshops in KL and Penang. Wristwright is the only one that gave me a written report I could actually keep. The storage advisory for my Seiko collection was specific and practical — not generic watch-shop advice.
Storage Preparation — March 2025

My grandmother's dress watch had not been serviced in decades. The report that came back was thorough and honest — the watchmaker told me what was feasible and what wasn't, without trying to oversell a full restoration. I proceeded with a partial service and the piece runs well now.

I was preparing to travel abroad for six months and wanted my pieces properly prepared. The storage advisory mentioned things I'd not considered — the effect of dehumidifiers on watch boxes, and why occasional winding schedules matter even for fully wound pieces in storage. Very useful document.

I came in for a caseback refinishing — no engraving, just wear marks I wanted addressed. The surface came back looking like new, and the water resistance test result was included in the paperwork. A small thing, but it shows the workshop is methodical about what it sends out.

Three Cases in Detail
Case Study 01 — Movement Diagnostic
A Vintage Dress Watch, Long Unserviced
Challenge
A 1960s Swiss dress watch had not been serviced in an estimated twenty years. The owner — inheriting the piece — could not determine whether the movement was still functional or simply stiff from old oil.
Approach
Full timing machine assessment. The report identified amplitude below specification but no mechanical damage. Beat error was elevated. The report laid out three paths: full service, movement observation only, or no further intervention.
Outcome
Owner chose observation for six months, with the written report retained as a baseline. The piece was returned in the same condition received, with no charges beyond the diagnostic fee. The owner appreciated having a documented state of condition.
Case Study 02 — Engraving & Refinishing
A Wedding Gift, Personalised After Purchase
Challenge
A modern automatic watch was purchased as a wedding gift. The buyer wanted a brief inscription on the caseback, but was concerned about the brushed finish being disturbed, and about the shallow caseback profile on this particular model.
Approach
Caseback assessed for thickness. Engraving depth calibrated to caseback profile. Proof submitted before work. One revision to letter spacing requested by client — accommodated before engraving. Finish restored to brushed specification after engraving.
Outcome
Piece returned with engraving, restored finish, and water resistance test result. The written record included the proof sign-off. Client reported the gift was well received; inscription depth held after two years of regular wear.
Case Study 03 — Storage Preparation
A Collection of Six Pieces, Pre-Rotation Storage
Challenge
A collector with six mechanical pieces was rotating three into storage for eighteen months. Penang's humidity had previously caused concern about oil migration, and two of the pieces had not been serviced in several years.
Approach
Each piece assessed individually. Two received light servicing; one required gasket replacement. All three demagnetised. Storage advisory prepared covering the collector's specific storage cabinet, the humidity range for that cabinet, and a periodic winding schedule appropriate to each movement type.
Outcome
All three pieces returned to service after the storage period in good order. The collector reported no amplitude drop beyond what might be expected from the storage interval, and has since brought in two further pieces for the same preparation.
