Our Approach

The Workshop Methodology

Every piece that enters Wristwright is catalogued on arrival. A condition note is taken, the service requested is recorded, and the owner's contact details are entered into the workshop ledger. This takes a few minutes at drop-off and sets the tone for the work that follows.

No intervention proceeds without the owner's written consent at each decision point. For diagnostic work, this means the report is shared before any further step is considered. For engraving, the proof is submitted before any engraving begins. For storage preparation, the advisory is discussed before the piece is returned.

Turnaround is set by the work itself, not by an external schedule. Most diagnostics are completed within five working days. Engraving and refinishing work typically takes seven to ten days, depending on the surface condition and the complexity of the design. Storage preparation generally falls within the same window.

Owners are contacted when the report or proof is ready, and again when the piece is ready to collect. The completed ledger entry accompanies every return.

Movement under magnification

Service 01

Movement Diagnostic
and Written Report

An initial diagnostic appointment for owners wishing to understand the present state of a timepiece before any intervention is considered. The movement is inspected under magnification, placed on a timing machine across standard positions, and evaluated for amplitude, beat error, and positional consistency.

A written report follows, outlining observed findings in plain language, along with a measured set of options. No further work is initiated without the owner's written consent, and the report remains the owner's to keep regardless of any subsequent decision.

  • Magnification inspection of movement condition
  • Timing machine assessment across standard positions
  • Amplitude and beat error evaluation
  • Plain-language written report for owner
  • Options presented without obligation
  • Written consent required before any further work

Service 02

Caseback Engraving
and Refinishing

A careful service for case backs requiring refinishing after long wear, or the addition of a commemorative engraving with the owner's approval. The case is removed from the movement, cleaned, and examined for thickness variation that may affect engraving depth.

Where engraving is requested, the owner reviews a proof before the work proceeds, and the surface is refinished to match the original character of the piece. The completed case is water resistance tested where applicable and returned with a short written record.

  • Case removed and cleaned
  • Thickness variation assessed before engraving
  • Engraving proof reviewed and approved by owner
  • Surface refinished to original character
  • Water resistance tested on return

Watch storage preparation

Service 03

Long-Term Storage
Preparation

A preparatory service for timepieces that will be set aside for an extended period — due to travel, a collection rotation, or an owner's wish to preserve a piece. The work includes a light service appropriate to the movement's condition, lubrication of key bearing points, gasket inspection, demagnetisation where indicated, and a discussion of storage conditions.

A written advisory accompanies the returned piece, suited to the owner's specific storage context, including temperature, humidity, and periodic gentle winding recommendations for Penang's climate.

  • Key bearing lubrication
  • Gasket and seal inspection
  • Demagnetisation where indicated
  • Storage conditions discussion with owner
