Why This Workshop

An Unhurried, Considered Approach

Written Record for Every Job

Each service closes with a written record left with the owner. The findings, the work performed, and the return condition are set down plainly.

Diagnostic Before Any Work

No intervention is made without a proper assessment. Owners receive a clear picture of their piece's condition before deciding how to proceed.

Consent Before Every Step

Work does not proceed without explicit written consent. The owner's decision governs the process throughout.

Engraving Proofed by Owner

For engraving work, a proof is submitted for review before any tool meets the caseback. Changes can be requested at that stage.

Storage Advice Tailored to Owner

Long-term storage preparation includes a written advisory specific to the owner's circumstances — their storage environment, collection habits, and piece type.

Water Resistance Tested on Return

Where applicable, pieces returned after caseback work are tested for water resistance before being handed back to the owner.

A Conversation Before Any Commitment

Bring your timepiece in, or write ahead with a description of what you've noticed. There is no obligation to proceed beyond an initial consultation.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

How long does a movement diagnostic take?

Most diagnostic appointments are completed within three to five working days. The written report follows shortly after, and the owner can take time to read it before deciding on any next steps.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Each job is handled individually, so booking an appointment ensures the piece receives proper attention from the outset. Walk-ins are occasionally accommodated when the schedule allows, but an advance inquiry is always preferable.

What movements do you work on?

Primarily mechanical and automatic movements. Some quartz movements are considered, particularly where they form part of a piece with sentimental or collector value. A brief description at the time of enquiry helps set expectations.

Can I request engraving on a watch I did not purchase here?

Yes. Engraving and caseback refinishing are available for any piece, regardless of origin. The case will be assessed for suitability — particularly caseback thickness — before a proof and price are discussed.

What storage conditions do you recommend?

General guidance tends toward stable, low-humidity environments away from direct sunlight. The written advisory provided with each storage preparation service is specific to the owner's circumstances and covers temperature ranges, winding schedules, and suitable case types for Penang's climate.

What is included in the written report?

The report covers observed condition, timing machine results across standard positions, amplitude readings, beat error, and a plain-language assessment of findings. A measured set of options follows, without any pressure to choose any of them.
